Prepping with Pellet
By Colin Walford

Summer is well and truly upon us now and the warm weather will have definitely warmed up those margin spots. So, when you are walking your lake looking for a few fish, don’t forget to take along a pocketful or two of pellet, and obviously, I’m going to recommend our pellets here at Scattered Baits.

Pellet is great for clearing small spots and prepping areas and encouraging fish to keep visiting those areas, and John and myself found out just how quickly fish will respond to pellet on a recent session on CEMEX Blue Pool, near Reading.

We found a few fish milling about at one end of the lake. They were very active low down in the crystal clear water but not actually feeding on anything. When the fish
had moved out, John dropped a handful of Aquatix Anchovy Pellet onto a clear area and I went further up the margin to another spot and also dropped in some Garlic and Black Pepper Pellet.

We went off for another lap of the lake, which only took around 20 minutes, 1 because it’s small and 2 because we didn’t see anything else, and as we crept into the areas where we had fed the pellet, we could instantly see fish feeding on the spots! It had only taken 20 minutes to get those fish to feed and I think the combination of the oils being released and the distinct smell given off by both types of pellet was what got those fish to go down! Incidentally, we had 10 takes between us over the next 48hrs, all of them over pellet!

My point in this is that it really can be that quick to turn fish on by using pellet. And, although many of you may fish on lakes that have a high bream and silver fish stock, which of course will all eat pellet, I believe that if you invite everything to the party and carp are in the area, they will come and investigate and more than likely, have a little munch!

Have a look at the range of pellet here on the website and introduce it to your armoury for a quick bite!

Cheers and
tight lines!
