The Mag-Aligner - by John Elmer

The rig I’m going to talk about this month is the Mag-aligner, now this is a rig Rob Maylin absolutely destroyed Sandhurst and Frimley, to name a couple of waters.

This was a rig I messed about with up on the Road Lake last year and to great success. The biggest fish I landed on it was the very elusive Scattered Linear at over 35lb.

The set up for this rig is quite straight forward really, I used a length of Rigmarole Micro Link in 15lb about 7inches in length, a size 10 Incisor Hook from Gardner and Solar Tackles Maggot Bag set up system and Enterprise fake maggots.

Now the are a few key points of this rig. The first is getting the fake Maggot positioned right on the hook and I used two lead split shot along the hook link material turned the opposite way from each other which helps with the hooking arrangement.

Another key point with this rig is that it can be devastating in the winter months when the fish metabolism slows down when it doesn’t want whole food items to digest. With the old Maggots they will eat them and pass them straight threw their system.

The last key point with this rig, it pays to fish it on an area that has no weed around it as you want the presentation spot on with it. So when the bites start to dry up why not give them ago you might be quite surprised. John Elmer
