November 2010 - Frustration on The Car Park
As the title suggests its been a really frustrating month on the Car Park. I turned up on the Sunday morning to start another 48 hour session in The Bars, well it turned out to be a really boring 48 hours. To say nothing at all happened would be just about right it was totally dead. I couldn’t wait to get off there.
It was on the drive home that I had made my mind up that I was going to try another part of the lake on my return. I had had enough of hearing that The Bars and The Curly were the winter swims to be in. When I started to think about the rod hours that had gone in to these swims it was quite mind blowing and they hadn’t even done a bite.
The following Sunday I went for a stroll around the Works Bank and ended sitting in The Dugout for ten minutes for a fag. Whilst sitting there, Mad Martin turned up for a chat. While we were sitting there I noticed in a small area a lot of single bubbles kept coming up. As we sat there having a chat I said to Martin, that was definitely carp causing it, the words had only just left my lips when a decent sized Common jumped clear of the water. I looked at Martin and said that will do for me. I literally ran back to the van and got my gear.
I have to say it was like a breath of fresh air fishing a new swim, now don’t get me wrong I had seen fish in The Bars area but I don’t think they were feeding there. If they had been having it in there I think I would have caught one after the amount of time I had spent in there.
Anyway back to The Dugout I managed to get a drop where the fish had shown, the lead went down fairly soft making me think it had landed in a load of chody silt. When pulling back on the rod I got a very light tap on the rod tip where it had gone over a light patch of gravel, then it locked up on the back of a weed bed. This was game on I thought a fish has shown and there’s a lovely little spot to present a bait on.
The first night passed away with nothing happening and I couldn’t believe it when I woke in the morning with the bobbins in the same place from the night before. I was gutted it looked bang on for a bite the previous day and nothing? When I brought the rods in everything was perfect, so I decided to change the rig presentation to the old faithfully chodie. I took the fishmeal bait off and put on a fluro pink pop up that I had rolled myself, something in their face I thought. The rod was cast back on the same spot, bang on, I ended sitting out on the boards in the front of the swim for three hours well in to dark.
It looked totally dead out there so I decided to sit in the bivvy and make a brew. The kettle had just gone on when I had two bleeps and then all of a sudden a fall blown take, the bite was that quick that the spoil on the SS3000 was louder than the Neville. When I picked up the rod I was nearly spun round on my feet was the force of the take.
As I started to gain a bit of line I could tell their was something not right? I was not in direct contact with the fish, my line was trapped in a weed bed about twenty yards out of the bank. I managed to ring John Claridge to see if he could come round and give me a hand, when he arrived with Lee they both said that they had heard the take.
By the time we had managed to clear the line the fish had gone I will be totally honest I felt like crying I was gutted. I tried to take the positives out of it but I couldn’t, but one thing is for sure I won’t be beat. So until next month be lucky.
GOT TO BE IN IT TO WIN IT
The eagle eye anglers amount you may have spotted that the snow shot above is not Yately's Carp Park Lake but Sutton at Hone's Car Park Lake where I spent a few very snowy hours with Advanced Carp Angler magazine. To find out how the session went be sure to pick-up your copy of the next issue.
Cheers and tight lines...
