August 2010 - Car Park calling
Well another month has passed us by and in my eyes we are coming up to the three best months of the carp fishing calendar. I think I left you last month with what I’ve been up to on the Car Park.
Theirs a certain area I have been spending quite a bit of time in, and I got my first opportunity in this area but ended up with no fish. I arrived at the lake Sunday morning for a 48 hour session and head straight to my little area. Over the past two visits I have seen a lot of activity in this area so I knew exactly where I wanted both rods to be positioned. With this in mind I was going to get both rods on these marks bang on and leave them for the full 48 hours.
Well the first morning I watched them come in and wipe out the left hand rod. I watched them keep visiting the spot and fizzing up on me but no bite occurred. Not wanting to move the rod I waited till the feeding had stopped and put out some more bait. Now, I know this sounds strange but I was still happy with the presentation of this rod so I reframed from a recast and sat on my hands waiting till the next mornings activity to happen. I better mention at this point that the rod that had all the feeding over it, had a big lump of weed drift over the spot so it looked bang on for a take.
At 7-30 the next morning the bobbin rose from a slack line up to butt and as I watched the tip pull down and the line pick up I ran to the rod. The next thing the bobbin was back on the floor so I thought it was a liner? I didn’t want to touch the rod because I couldn’t get the rod back on the spot and I only had two hours before I had to pack up.
When I finally had to go I brought the rod in to find the shrink tube had been blown back up the shank of the hook. I had been well and truly done, I was gutted but had to take a positive out of it. I had managed a pick up on the Car Park after six nights fishing.
The following week I couldn’t get back to the Car Park as I had a feature to do with Carpology, so I found myself heading up to little horse shoe with Nigel Sharp, Jamie Smith, Dave Benton, Keith Sykes, Dave Sykes and Chris and Ryan. We had a really good three days filming and doing the feature and drinking a bit to much Shiraz (thanks to Mr Keith Sykes) my head still hurts now.
Any way a really pretty little lake and tricky too, I ended up losing one after getting it moving again when it weeded me up (THE NEW BAIT IS DOING THE TRICK THOUGH).
So I would like to thank all the lads for having me and the crack we had, which brings me up to date, all though I popped over Sutton back lake and bagged a nice 21lb 14oz common after a couple of hours fishing.
Cheers and tight lines...
