June 2010 - The Road by Dan Chart
John is so busy rolling bait this month that he asked me to step in and report how June has gone so far on the Road Lake.
I didn’t do the start this year which is June 1st instead opting to go after the guys had done their 48 hours. The Road Lake can be a very moody place with the fish mainly thinking about spawning when the temperatures rise early summer. Last year they spawned over three times during the summer months which made the fishing very hard. This year has started slow again with only a hand full of carp coming out and these being caught against the snags at either end of the lake. My first 48 hour session saw me fishing a swim known as the hump. I had an occurrence early morning that resulted in the fish picking my hook bait up and depositing it into the snag… good start!
This month isn’t really about my angling though as right at the start of the new season my cousin Jason had to try and cope with the unexpected passing away of both his parents in one weekend and for myself the most dearest Auntie and Uncle. As with us all, angling gives so much pleasure and time to reflect on things that you would never be able to whilst in the comforts of your own home, so Jason naturally had a dabble on both his new syndicate in Northolt and the Road Lake.
Despite the Road Lake fishing so dreadfully he persisted and managed to catch the fish he has so sought after, Orange Spot (pictured) at a colossal 38.2. He found a number of fish feeding in snags at the opposite end of the lake but knew the Orange Spots lair which is at the other end and deservedly caught it just before packing up time late morning. A chod rig fished over 40 Scattered Baits Garlic and Black Pepper providing the winning combination.
I can’t stress how right that was that the carp gods looked down on him on that session, well done mate!!
Personally, I have just acquired a ticket for an amazing syndicate in Surrey which will receive most of my time from now on even though I desperately want to catch a couple of fish that I haven’t caught out of the Road Lake, but hopefully when you see some of the fish in there (that with a bit of luck, I might catch!) you’ll understand why I had to have a go!!
Cheers and tight lines...
