Baiting for Spring
By Ryan Boyda
Over the coming weeks the carp will be getting increasingly more active and on the hunt for food as the spring gets nearer. So, if you’re looking to start a baiting campaign now is the time to start introducing you chosen fishmeal bait like the Aquatix Anchovy or the Garlic & Black Pepper into your venue. You don’t need to use a huge amount of bait just two or three handfuls into the right areas on a regular basis is all you need to gain the carps confidence in eating your bait and also visiting your baited area.
The shallower areas of the lake will be worth keeping a close eye on throughout the spring as the rays of the sun will be getting stronger and warming up these areas drawing the carp to them like a magnet Having said that we can still experience cold nights which will move them about accordingly.
It’s defiantly worth keeping a bit of bait going in on two or three spots in varied depths around the lake to keep you options open. During your sessions its worth while having a couple of walks around throughout the day to check your spots for any activity. If you begin to notice regular movement over the areas I would recommend if possible upping the amount of bait you apply or put it in more frequently.

The thing about starting your campaign now is that you have plenty of time to get a feel for the place also you have the advantage over most other anglers who are still using single fluros . Although this will still catch carp having your areas prime long before the others will benefit you in the long run as the carp will hopefully have the confidence to be regularly visiting your spots.
