Boilie Mag-Aligner - by Dan Chart
Following on from John’s piece last month I thought I’d show you a rig that really did the business for me a few winter’s back culminating in my personal best, Clover from the Road Lake.
The rig differs from the mag-aligner slightly in that I use two 14mm boilies rather than maggots on the hair or the hook. An Enterprise mag aligner yellow grub is positioned the same way as you would with the normal mag aligner rig over a size 8 Gardner Mugga in size 8. A semi stiff coated hooklink material peeled back so that an inch is supple below the hook aids with the hook turning over.
I tried mucking about with different colour grubs but none seemed to do the damage like the yellow one did. A loop knot gives the rig total movement at the swivel end and I just finish it off with putty blobs to prevent it looping off the bottom.
The visual aspect from the grub coupled with the way the hook turns quickly once picked up is why I think it works so well. The hook hold’s with this rig are superb. Try running the rig over the back of your hand and you’ll see how quick it try’s to penetrate. To get the best out of the rig fish it with an in line lead over firm clear ground.
